The SCFP Needs Volunteers to help on the ground!

 We are in need of volunteers to help us keep our programs going. In wake of the SCFP's budget crisis, we've had to reduce our full-time staff from three people to one person. While our students can do a lot on their own, it's the people they get to work with, motivate, and guide them that make the biggest difference!

We are in need of volunteers for our tutoring and study sessions as well as our Saturday Schools and activities.  Help us fill up our calendar!

As part of our long term sustainability plan, we want to fully incorporate volunteers into our program and utilize the amazing resources we have here in the Delta. That means YOU! Partner with us and together we can make this work.

SCFP Alum Motivates the Next Generation: Cornesha Ward- '08, Howard Univ.

Taking time from her busy schedule, 2008 SCFP graduate, Cornesha Ward from Sunflower, MS takes time to reflect on her college experience and reach back to the next generation of Freedom Fellows

Hi SCFP fam,          How are you all doing? Fine i hope! I just got out of class and decided to write you guys a letter with some updates. As you all may know, I am currently attending Howard University in Washington DC. Yes, it is far away from home but its worth it. I started school three weeks ago and I am enjoyin every bit of it. College life is the best! I don't want you to think that it's all fun and games because it is not! It was a very hard transition for me coming from RCHS, but i took the initiative and attended the -program to prepare myself for the fall. Now I am adjusted but I have to stay on my grind so that I can get more scholarshiips and FinAid for the upcoming year. So don't think that college is where you go to wild out when you leave high school because its not. Of course you can have fun, but always have your priorities set.
          But enough about me.....I truly hope you all continue this program out until you graduate. It is a must, because I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the Sunflower County Freedom Project! Yes I worked my butt off to get here but i dont think I would've gotten this far if it hadn't been for Mr. Myers, Mr. McCoy and every other teacher who bended their back to shape me into the person i am today. Nothing in this world is given to you.....so unless you TAKE these opportunities in front of you for all they're worth....you won't be as successful as you set out to be. LAdies, stay to you! Keep your focus and determination. Don't let these boys around here try to stop you because they are no good....TRUST...i know! LOL! And boys, step your game up! Break the stereotypes made to break YOU! You are somebody! I believe in you all! Take advantage of everything the SCFP has to offer! My words are getting short and plus I'm gettin hungry so i'll holla at yall later!
