The Sunflower County Freedom Project is now involved in a 5k Indianola run/ walk called " Delta Sole." Our team, sponsored by the Crown Restaurant, is called the "Freedom Express" and they have been preparing for weeks for this big race on Saturday, September 29th.
The race is being put together by the B.B. King Museum and our team is training under our very own, Autumn Hayes.
So far, we have about 12 members who've been training with us consistently every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We're less than two weeks away from our the race and we're getting more and more sponsors as we get stronger and faster each week.
1/2 of the Freedom Express Team with B.B. King Museum Director, Connie Gibbons and Tony Broughton of the Crown Restaurant. This training was held at 7am, so I guess we'll call this the Red Eye team.
We're working to outfit our team with some legitimate running and training gear including pedometers, watches, water bottles, and ultimately for those who make the necessary progress and complete the race, an MP3 player for that home stretch motivation. If you're interested in helping us complete our race, feel free to drop a line of encouragement on our post or send us an email if you want to help with any gear. (ourfreedomproject@gmail.com)
We're so excited about this race, not only because of the competition of it, but because of what it will mean for the Delta and the potential impact it could have on the practice and perception of health in our community. We're even thinking about holding our own race in the near future to get even more kids in the Delta involved!
All Aboard!! The Freedom Express is rolling!!
